Overview

Bolt is a US-based one-click checkout platform founded in 2014 by Ryan Breslow. It enables ecommerce merchants to replace their native checkout with a conversion-optimized experience backed by a network of over 80 million verified shoppers. When a shopper visits any merchant on the Bolt network, Bolt automatically recognizes them via email or phone number, pre-populates payment and shipping data, and allows them to complete the purchase in a single click — even on their first visit to that particular merchant's site. The core product, Bolt Checkout OS, supports deep integrations with Adobe/Magento, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, and Shopify. Bolt's commerce stack includes Checkout 2.0 (AI-driven dynamic shopper profiles), Checkout Everywhere (buy-now buttons embeddable in any touchpoint — social, email, SMS), Bolt ID (a network identity and fraud layer integrating with Socure), and Bolt Payments (native payment processing acting as a payment facilitator, with support for 30+ currencies, APMs including Affirm, Klarna, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Afterpay, and Amazon Pay). As of April 2025, Bolt simplified pricing to a flat 2.1% + $0.30 per transaction. Important governance context: Bolt has experienced significant turbulence since its Series E ($355M, January 2022) at an $11B valuation. By early 2024, its implied valuation had collapsed approximately 97% to ~$300M. The company was subject to an SEC investigation (announced July 2023) and faced multiple lawsuits, all since settled. Founder Ryan Breslow returned as CEO in March 2025 after settling outstanding legal disputes. Bolt laid off approximately one-third of its staff in April 2026 and as of mid-2026 was reportedly seeking $600M+ in new funding. Despite these challenges, the core checkout product remains active with partnerships with Klarna (June 2025), Affirm (January 2026), and Palantir (June 2025).
